AS/400 Differentiators - Integration
Domino for AS/400 is a fully integrated system. As such, it contains an operating system made up of custom-built components specifically designed for seamless, interdependent operation. For Domino for AS/400's operating system (OS/400), integrated components include the relational database, DB2/400, the Integrated File System (IFS), the System Distribution Directory (SDD).
Domino now runs natively on AS/400. Porting Domino to the OS/400 required developers to change less than 1% of Domino's code. This low percentage of change resulted from the fact that both Domino and AS/400 share a basic philosophy: open architecture. Now, fully integrated, they fit together hand-in-glove, with each component enhancing the strengths of the other.
As an integrated* native application, Domino has distinct advantages. It:

For years, the value proposition for AS/400 has been "simplicity through integration." This level of integration guards against "creeping costs" because customers purchase everything they need up front; there is no need for add-ons. Today, Domino for AS/400 has the highest level of integration of any server on the market.
*The word integrated here refers to Domino's capacity to seamlessly mesh its functionality with that of the operating system. It is not meant to suggest that Domino is now a part of the operating system's total pricing. On the contrary, Domino is still a product that must be priced separately.
